Facts
Drug overdoses in America spiked during the COVID-19 pandemic and have remained high, claiming over 300,000 lives since 2020.
Over 70% of overdose deaths per year are caused by opioids, equivalent to a Boeing 737 passenger jet crashing each day with no survivors.

Synthetic opioids, like fentanyl, now kill more Americans each year than Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan military service member death tolls combined.

Just 2mg of fentanyl is a potentially lethal dose. As of 2022, 6 of 10 fake prescription pills laced with fentanyl contain a potentially lethal dose, compared to 4 of 10 in 2021.

Fentanyl is the leading cause of death for Americans aged 18 to 45.
Trafficking of fentanyl has quickly surpassed heroin since 2021 and over 90% of fentanyl seizures occur at the border and points of entry.

Cartels use a global supply chain to manufacture, transport, and sell fentanyl -- creating a global financial network of billions of dollars.

The poisoning of Americans has been unleashed, on purpose, by the Sinaloa and Jalisco drug cartels of Mexico, using ingredients shipped from China.

As a result, fentanyl is causing more deaths than guns and car accidents combined.
The human cost of the opioid crisis, fueled by fentanyl, is staggering -- and so is the economic cost on our country.

Financial analysis shows that from 2019 to 2020 the costs of opioid addiction and fatal overdose increased $487 billion, reflecting a 37% increase from 2017.

Adults in their prime age disproportionately suffer from the highest substance use and that likely attributes to an estimated 20% of missing labor force.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, state and federal policies caused relapse, restricted access to treatment, created isolation, and increased mental health issues. Supplemental and unemployment insurance payments made it easier to afford drugs and reduced the opportunity cost of abusing them which is reflected in the sharp rise of fatal overdoses.
